Artist: Earl Park
Curator: Shazeb Shaikh (India)
Earl Park holds a BFA in Digital Media Design and an MFA in Interaction Design from Hongik University, Seoul. While he was making designs for novel forms of media, the artist developed his interest in the basic materials and technology that form new media. Based on his personal familiarity with machinery, he explores diverse relationships between the human and the machine, questioning conventional limitations of words such as “machine-like” and “human-like,” thus expanding their boundaries while connecting them with seemingly antinomic definitions. He participated in exhibitions including Daejeon Biennale, ACT Festival, Creators Project: Seoul and Da vinchi Creative. Also he designed and installed large-scale media art works as a member of ‘Media artist Group: Jonpasang’.
Shazeb is currently the CEO and Director of Programs and Projects at The Story of Foundation(TSO), a lifelong and life-wide learning organisation based out of Goa, India. In the past, TSO has hosted India’s first arts-meet-science public festivals with The Story of Light - this was also India’s official contribution to the UN-adopted International Year of Light (2015). The Story of Space (2017) and the currently ongoing thematic of The Story of Mind (2019-21) are the other two festivals in the trilogy of live and informal learning programs hosted by TSO.
Shazeb is also the Founder-Director of KYTA (established in 2014) - an experimental residency program currently hosted at 3500mtrs in the highest cold desert in the world - Ladakh in India. He’s also the Founder-Director of The Blackout Festival that focuses on experimental urban subculture. Started his apartment on 21-12-2012, the festival has hosted a major international edition in Basel, Switzerland in 2015.
Shazeb also performs as a live-cinema producer and has been part of several projects and communities ranging from public space awareness, independent cinema, and multidisciplinary artist collectives.
