노순택(1971년생)은 한반도의 분단과 직접적으로 관련된 현실의 상황들을 세밀하게 포착한 사진 작업을 해오고 있다. 그는 분단이 한국인의 일상 속에 얼마나 깊이 스며들었으며, 그것이 사회 전반을 어떻게 왜곡시켜왔는지를 보여준다. 다큐멘터리 사진기자로서 활동을 시작한 그는 이후 여러 권의 사진집을 출간했다. 《한반도 대멸치》(2005), 《strAnge ball》(2006), 《붉은 집》(2007), 《비상국가》(2008), 《진짜 좋은 살인》(2010), 《망각기계》(2012), 《잃어버린 보온병을 찾아서》(2013) 등이 있다. 이 모든 작업을 관통하는 주제는 “고장남으로써 작동하는 분단”이다. 노순택은 사진을 통해 분단 이데올로기와 관련된 이미지들이 한국 사회에서 어떻게 유통되고 소비되는지를 탐구한다.

NOH Suntag (b. 1971) produces photographs that detail real-life situations directly related to the division of Korea. He shows how deeply the division has permeated the daily lives of the Korean people and has thus distorted the entire society. After beginning his career as a documentary photojournalist, Noh has published many books of photography: Smells like the division of the Korean peninsula (2005); the strAnge ball (2006), Red House (2007), State of Emergency(2008), reallyGood murder (2010), The Forgetting Machine (2012) and  In Search of Lost Thermos Bottles (2013). The overall theme penetrating all of these works is how the division “functions through malfunctioning.” NOH uses his photography to explore how images related to the division ideology are distributed and consumed in Korean society.
